I recall my freshman year of highschool when Ronald looked into the face of the world media and said, "Gorbachev, tear down this wall." By the time I was a junior the East and West Germans were taking pick axes and sledgehammer to the Berlin wall and democracy turned the tables on communism throughout Europe. The famous German rock band The Scorpions penned a song that hit the carts like a stinger missile called "The Winds of Change." Teen agers all across Europe, Britain and the US were swaying euphoricaly with their cigarette lighters lit as we, wondered to ourselves what these winds of change would blow in.
Today is not altogether unlike that time in my life, however it is not some evil empire that has fallen, nor some monolith commemorating division that has been destroyed. But make no mistake a corner has been turned and the winds of change are blowing in the Foreign Mission Board, and the Southern Baptist Convention. It is a cold wind, and instead of millions of teenagers celebrating in a world wide harmonic convergence, missionaries around the world are donning hats and gloves and adjusting their scarves.
Please pray for Wade Burleson today as we wait to hear what the SBC has to say at their press release. For more information check Wade's blog
